1. Peppermint essential oil

Research published in Frontiers in Neurology showed that a gel with menthol (the main active compound in peppermint) can reduce the intensity of acute migraines after just two hours. In this case, we suggest using it with a carrier oil.

Ingredients

  • 10 drops of peppermint oil
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (5 grams)

Preparation

  • Combine the drops of peppermint oil with coconut oil. If you don’t have coconut oil, you can use another one, such as almond or olive oil.
  • After mixing the oils, gently massage the product into the temples, forehead and neck of the baby. Avoid applying near the eyes as this mixture can be irritating.

  • 1 tablespoon of dried chamomile (15 grams)
  • 1 cup of water (250 milliliters)
  • Peppermint essential oil (optional)

Preparation

  • First, add dried chamomile to a cup of boiling water.
  • After 10 minutes, strain the drink and give it to the baby.
  • Optionally, add about 10 drops of chamomile essential oil to a bowl of boiling water.
  • Let your baby soak up the vapors for a relaxing effect. This measure should be supervised so as not to pose a risk of burns.
  • If symptoms persist, repeat this 2 or 3 times a day.

3. Magnesium

Migraine may be a clinical symptom of magnesium deficiency. This essential mineral plays an important role in many body functions, including glucose control and nerve conduction.

Evidence has shown that magnesium supplementation helps relieve migraine by reducing its severity. However, giving these products to children should only be suggested by a professional. Otherwise, it can be obtained through food such as:

  • Green leafy vegetables.
  • Beans.
  • Seeds and nuts.
  • Whole grains.

4. Cold compresses

  • If you don’t have a compress, wrap the ice cubes in a towel and apply it in the same way.
  • Do light massages for 2 or 3 minutes. Then rest for the same period and repeat the application.
  • Do 2 times a day until the baby’s condition improves.
