Brain Cancer Vaccine Available Soon?

Brain cancer vaccine available soon?

Brain cancer is one of the most aggressive. However, an already developed vaccine could be the end of the disease.

The vaccine is a good way of prevention, but it also helps to treat diseases. Therefore, it is important that researchers look at different treatment options for cancer as aggressive as brain cancer. But what if the vaccine already exists?

Brain cancer is a serious blow not only for patients but also for families. Depression in which diagnosed people sometimes fall, as pointed out in the article Quality of life in patients with brain tumors: the importance of psychological variables  causes anxiety and great discomfort.

But maybe there is nothing to worry about anymore. There are several sources that tell us that there is a vaccine that could be the last resort for brain cancer. Let’s see what the expectations are and how this vaccine works against this disease.

Brain cancer vaccine

In December 2018, the El País newspaper published a news about personalized vaccines for patients suffering from brain cancer. This was done in a study of a few people that had fairly encouraging results.

However, since the number of people who participated in the test was small, the researchers did not dare to conclude that they were able to find a cure for this type of cancer. More research needs to be done to ensure the validity of the evidence.

Vaccine

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a concept of great importance in this newly discovered vaccine. The term refers to using the body’s own defenses to target and attack brain cancer.

However, researchers have found that not all tumors are exactly the same, and not all respond well to immunotherapy treatment. For this reason, “precision immunotherapy” has been developed to treat patients suffering from glioblastoma.

Personalized vaccine

Glioblastoma multiforme is one of the cancers with the worst prognosis. For this reason, patients who suffered from this strain at the time of the study needed a personalized vaccine for the results to be favorable. How is it done?

The best way is to design a vaccine that contains the patient’s own tumor antigens. This promotes a much more effective immune response. This is because lymphocytes can recognize “bad” cells and destroy them.

In the course of the study, they found that patients responded positively to the personalized vaccine, not the generic one. Well, it’s not useful that it’s meant for every type of tumor. To fight brain cancer, the vaccine needs to be personalized.

Brain cancer expectations

Research

The progress made in relation to different types of cancer, in particular brain cancer, is quite promising. However, only 30 people took part in the said study.

It may also make us wonder if it would be possible to test and create a personalized vaccine for each person with brain cancer. Is it feasible? Would the cost allow everyone to access it?

In addition, it should be mentioned that research has failed to destroy cancer in people who have suffered from it. Although it should be emphasized that they suffered from a rather aggressive type of cancer with high mortality.

However, it was possible to increase the survival rate of patients. According to what the El País newspaper told us,  these patients usually live for about 14 months. However, the vaccine allowed that time to rise to 29 months. Undoubtedly, this is an encouraging achievement that indicates that we are on the right track and that perhaps finally finding a cure is near.

Currently, scientists are still exploring various options for ending these types of diseases that take thousands of people away from us every year. We hope that sooner than expected we will receive news of a vaccine that will completely eradicate cancer.

Children, adolescents, adults and the elderly suffer from various types of cancer. Having chemotherapy and radiotherapy is an experience that we hope will soon be replaced by a simple, accessible, reliable and effective vaccine.

Do you think a cure for cancer will soon be invented? Do you think it will also be possible with more aggressive cancers like glioma?
