How to make lavender soap?

First of all, we will need the right ingredients for this  :

  • 210 ml of olive oil or sunflower oil
  • 30 grams of caustic soda
  • 65 ml of distilled water
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Fresh or dried lavender flowers

In addition, you will also need a few different utensils and utensils :

  • The form, shape can be any – whatever you like. This could be, for example, the cut off bottom of a bottle. Do not use aluminum molds!
  • Safety glasses (caustic soda is a caustic, alkaline compound!)
  • Hand blender
  • Pot
  • Glass bowl
  • Wooden mixing spoon

Preparation

  • First, prepare the mold. Then place a few lavender flowers on the bottom. When you take the finished soap out of the mold, after turning it over, the flowers will be on top of it.
  • Put a glass bowl into the sink and carefully, using protective glasses, pour caustic soda into it and pour distilled water. Try to do it in such a way that the poured water does not overflow from the bowl. Water and soda will cause a chemical reaction and vapor will begin to rise from it. Wait for the reaction to complete. It is best to open the window immediately so that the room ventilates as quickly as possible.
  • Pour the oil into the pot and heat it over low heat. When it reaches a temperature of about 40 * C, take it off the heat and pour it into the baking soda. Then mix everything thoroughly with a blender until it starts to get a gel, cloudy consistency. Be careful not to spill anything!
  • Then add 20 to 30 drops of lavender essential oil and some more lavender flowers. Mix it well. Do this before the gel cools down.

  • Pour the prepared substance into the mold with flowers. Add a few more flowers on top so that they can also be seen from this side.
  • Cover the form with a towel to keep it warm for as long as possible. Once it has cooled down, leave it there for 12-24 hours. Do not mix the contents of the mold so that it calmly turns into soap.
  • After this time, you can remove it from the mold and leave it in a fresh and dry place for one and a half to two months. This is roughly the time it takes for the soap to harden.

Tailor-made soap

If you like the soap made this way, you can make even more the next time by proportionally increasing the amount of ingredients and using several different molds.

Or maybe you will use one large form, e.g. a roasting pan? If you are going to make your soap in large form, cut it into pieces as soon as it cools down. Leave the pieces slightly separated from each other until they harden, then they will harden evenly.

When it comes to caustic soda, remember to be very careful with it ! When preparing the soap, make sure that it is not accessible to children or pets.

Always use goggles and even a mask and gloves as this compound is very corrosive. If you accidentally splash yourself with a soda solution, you better wash it with vinegar.

The second, simplified recipe

If you do not like to overexert yourself, we have a second, simplified way of preparing such soap at home.

  • Buy a bar of glycerin soap – it can be transparent.
  • You will need two pots, a bigger one and a smaller one. Pour water into the larger one and place the smaller pot in it. Put the soap in the smaller one.
  • Put on gas. Once the soap has melted, add a few drops of lavender essential oil and a few lavender flowers.
  • Remove from heat and immediately, without waiting for it to cool down, pour the soap into the previously prepared mold to give it the desired shape and leave it to cool down.
